How to Boost Your Confidence Before a Ballroom Dancing Competition

Let’s face it: competing in a ballroom dancing competition is nerve-racking in the worst way. You’ve spent years perfecting your technique, months finding the perfect gown, and days putting the finishing touches on your technique and your look. But have you prepared mentally? Are you ready for that moment when the lights are shining, the music is blaring, and all eyes are on you?

The truth is, confidence can make all the difference in a competition. That’s why ConfiDance Couture makes it our mission to create dazzling gowns that not only make dancers look beautiful, but feel beautiful.

Of course, finding that perfect gown is just one part of feeling confident, and while that part is up to us, the rest is up to you. Here are some of our favorite tips for dancers looking for a confidence boost before a competition.

Get pampered. A trip to the spa can give any girl a lift. Whether you get a simple pedicure, or go all out with a body wrap or facial, this is one thing you can do to help yourself feel beautiful, relaxed, and confident!

Meditate. Meditation has become much more mainstream in recent years, and for good reason. Practicing mindfulness can reduce stress, increase optimism, and sharpen your focus -- all things that will contribute to your confidence for your competition!

Visualize success. Get an image in your head of what you want to happen at the competition. Imagine your graceful entrance, your flawless steps, and the sense of relief you’ll feel when it’s all over. Look in the mirror, smile that winning smile, and feel your confidence soar!

Ask for help. Sometimes, all you need is a little pep talk. Ask your coach, partner, spouse, or friend to help you focus on the positive. They’ll remind you of your strengths, your dreams, and all the hard work you’ve put into dancing. You’ll feel more confident in no time.

Fake it 'til you make it. Research shows that when we act like we feel a certain way, we often end up actually feeling that way. Assume the posture, facial expressions, and attitude of a confident person. You’ll be amazed at how much this will help your confidence level to increase.

Confidence is a key ingredient to success in competitions, so don’t ignore it! Instead, use these tips to cultivate your confidence and use it to give a performance your audience (and the judges) won’t soon forget.
